Poetry from the inside: “Spoiled” by Bahgeerah

Spoiled
by Bagheera

I fear us niggas have grown spoiled.

Somehow thinking we’re entitled for the way our parents toiled

As if their suffering could be overlooked by a donkey and some soil

like these run down houses with electrically surging coils.

See how we throw away the water after the hot dogs come to boil

or those scraps left on the plate we feed to the sink’s shrieking gargoyle

that is unless we stick it in the fridge all wrapped up in foil

Only to remember when the smell makes our mucous membranes broil.

Man, we used to use lard for lotion now it’s fancy cocoa butter oil.

We went from sack cloth to master’s suits and couldn’t help but feel royal,

yet we still suffer at the hands we hold to as loyal.

Now ain’t nothing wrong with advancement but if you got angrier about the Oscars than when they shot and killed Oscar…

Then nigga you SPOILED!!!

Poetry from the inside: “Frustrations of 2015”

Children washing up on the beach like discarded trash
others lying in the street with bullets in their backs
and their momma’s can’t speak their hearts broken like glass while
their daddies feel weak because they can’t fight back.
See the tears rained in sheets when 200 village girls were kidnapped
and tears roll down cheeks when 200 student bodies found graved en mass
and their mamas can’t sleep for dreaming of their child wrapped in a body bag
and their daddies feel heat a warmth in their chest slowly driving them mad.
Now feel a hurt so deep when a car bomb blows up every child in it’s class
or a I.E.D. that sends a man home to his family and he’s missing both legs
How can you eat knowing someone’s starving just because they’re considered lower caste?
How can you be, when you’re silent consent equals violence against outcast? How can you be, when you know your world leaders have all this blood on their hands? So how’d you vote to agree, when your government’s the reason for all this opium and crack? So please don’t feign peace because you didn’t declare war on drugs you declared war on blacks… and in one way or the other we’re all black.

Is there really a difference between a redneck, a wetback and a nigga when we are all suffering?
We are one people.

Poets behind bars: Negro Arabiyyah

Negro Arabiyyah
The War on Terror is starting to look like the war on drugs.
Where America treats Muslims the same way they do thugs.
Where they create a situation to oppress the already down trodden,
And introduce characters like Osama Escobar and Pablo Bin Laden.
So that cocaine and baking soda look like the world trade,
while both were out of reach of former nomads and slaves.
Yet both offered reason for the patriot and Drug Act
and the crackdown in the ghetto mirrored those of Iraq.
One sent to special housing units the other to Guantanamo,
now you tell me the difference between Arab and negro?!.

You’ve seen this before, because before
it was the Arab, it was the thug, then the Mexican,
then communist then the Irish and Italian
Immigrants, then the savage Indian and barbaric
African. America has never known peace.
Ask yourself why???
